Track student progress of custom tasks

When looking for Completion Standards work, you can navigate to the student profile via the search bar, and from all reports that narrow down to the student. Once on the Completion Standards tab, view the assigned tasks, the student's submission, exempt them from completing a task, if necessary, and send them direct feedback on their work.

View student work by profile

You can quickly navigate to a student's profile in Xello to view all their work, from assigned Completion Standards tasks, to saved goals, created plans, completed assignments and more.

To view a student's task work in their profile: 

  1. In the search bar located at the top of any page in your educator account, enter the student's name or ID.

    tipTip: Alternatively, from the left menu, click Students and select Student list to browse the full list of students.
  2. Click on the student's name. The About student tab of their profile opens.

  3. To begin viewing their completed tasks, either click the Tasks complete progress wheel, or click the Completion Standards tab.
  4. Scroll down to view the full list of tasks assigned to the student.

    • Tasks marked as optional for students are not included in the list by default. Tick Include optional tasks to view optional tasks.
    • To include previous grade tasks, click Include lower grade tasks.
    • Switch the exempt toggle to exempt a student from completing the task.
  5. Locate the custom task you want to view and click its title to open details of the task and the student's submission.
    • Click View details to learn more about the task, including instructions and any prerequisites.
    • For submissions that required the student to upload a file, click the link to download or view it.
    • For portfolio submissions, clicking the submission link will open the student's Xello portfolio in that window so you can immediately view their work.
    • Tasks can be marked as exempt.
    • Where applicable, Mark as approved to complete the task for your student and move it to their Done section. Until you approve it, it will remain in their In review section.
    • Click Send feedback to add any notes for the student to read.

Run a report on task completion

Run a report to view how many students have completed that task. You'll be able to view the students who have completed it, who has been exempted, and who still needs to complete it. Use this opportunity to add students to a group, send a reminder, or exempt students from needing to complete the task.

To run a report on task completion: 

  1. In your educator account, click Reports and select Completion Standards.

  2. Locate the task and click its name.

  3. This will open the task modal where you can get a reminder of what's required in the task, who it's assigned to, and view helpful related resources.

  4. Click View report to open the task's report. From this report page, you can do the following:
    • Apply Filters to narrow the list by grade, school (only at the district level), group, completion status, and more.

    • Click a column header to sort the table by that column.
    • To add or remove columns in the table, or to export the report to an Excel or CSV file, click Data options.

    • Click Add to group to add selected students to a new or existing group.
    • Send message will open a modal where you can to send an in-context message to the selected students.
    • Click the Mark as... dropdown to exempt students from completing the task.
    • Click on a student name to open that student's profile where you can view their progress on all their assigned tasks.
