Access and manage WBL opportunities as an educator

All educators are able to view student and educator Work-based learning (WBL) Opportunities in their Xello Educator account. Check in on your students' WBL requests while you're already in Xello managing other student work.

To access WBL in Xello:

  1. From your educator account, click Features and select Work-based learning.

  2. From this landing page, manage Student requests, explore Student opportunities, Educator opportunities, or available Companies.

View and sort student requests

When viewing the list of student requests, you can filter and sort the following ways:

  • Use the search bar to narrow the list to show one student or a specific request.
  • Filter the table by clicking Filters to narrow the list.
  • Click a column heading to sort the table by column data.
noteNote: Although all educators can view requests, it's recommended that your district selects an “Opportunity Coordinator” at each school to manage student requests.

To view and organize the list of student requests:

  1. From the Work-based learning landing page, next to Student requests, click Manage.
  2. To narrow the list, click Filter.
  3. Select between a variety of filtering options, including: 
    • Grade
    • School
    • Type
    • Company
    • Request status. These include:
      • Requested
      • Setup underway
      • Application submitted
      • Scheduled
      • Hired/Selected
      • Canceled
    • Approval status. These include:
      • Approved
      • Pending
      • Declined

  4. Use the search bar to narrow down the list of requests to one student or opportunity.

Manage student-created opportunity permissions

You can turn on or off the ability for students to create their own opportunities in Xello. You’ll be able to filter the list of students so you can change permissions for select grades, groups, or students.

If this feature has been disabled, when students navigate to their My opportunities page, they’ll see a banner indicating the Add opportunities feature has been turned off by their school.

To manage student-created opportunity permissions:

  1. From your educator account, click Features and select Work-based learning.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Next to Student-created opportunities, click Manage to open the student list.

  4. To narrow the list, click Filters and choose from Grade, Group, or Opportunity creation status. Click Apply.

  5. Select the students you want to apply the change to.
    • Click the Selected (0) box to select all the students on the list.
  6. Click the Opportunity creation dropdown.

  7. Select Enable or Disable.
  8. Confirm your change and click Ok.
