Mark a task as exempt or approved

If it's needed, you can exempt a student from completing a task. This will mark the task as Complete (exempt) when you run a report or view their student profile. For students, the task will move to the Done section of their To-do list.

The Completion Standards configuration at your school may require an educator to Mark as approved Xello Lessons or custom tasks. If this is the case, in reports and on the student profile, the task will have a completion status of Incomplete (in review) until it's been approved. For students, the task will show as In review until it's been approved, at which point it will move to the Done section.

List of completion statuses. They are "Incomplete", "Incomplete (in review)", "Complete", and "Complete (exempt)".

You can exempt or approve student work in bulk. This could be helpful if you have a group of students who are not required to complete the task. Or, this might be helpful if you reviewed their work with them while in the classroom and before they've submitted in Xello and you wish to mark them all as approved.

noteNote: Marking multiple submissions as approved at once means you will not be opening and viewing their work before marking it.

To mark a task as exempt or approved:

  1. Open the task by running a Completion Standards by task report (for a reminder on how, see Review student work by task above).
  2. From the task report page, in each student's row, toggle Mark as exempt or Mark as approved.

For multiple students at once:

  1. From the task report page, click the box next to the name of each student whose work you want to approve. A couple tips:
    • Apply Filters to narrow the list by grade, school (only at the district level), group, completion status, and more.
